Foodventures in Manila, day 1
January 20, 2007I arrived in B's house, still groggy from the bus ride. When I woke from my nap, I was debating whether to go to the office and do some business or go to Makati to do some business. I opted for the latter as I might not finish soon enough at the office. So we hopped on a bus for Makati.
It was lunch time when we arrived and I was hungry. B remembered an this place that was featured on tv. We walked for some time until we finally had to take a pedicab. we arrived in this hole in the corner eatery. It was called Aling Sosing's, i think. It was just an eatery in the corner with a vulcanizing shop beside it. It felt weird eating beside a guy repairing another guy's wheels.
It was an open air affair. On a big table were lines of covered pots. There were several tables and chairs. Lots of people were eating. We looked inside the pots and started ordering. B ordered pork adobo, squid, tilapia sa gata, and pakbet. The food was brought to us along with big bowls of sabaw ng bulalo. The servings were generous. THe rice, not so. The adobo was sort of blond-looking. It was great though I prefer my adobo to have lots of soy sauce. The squid was ok. The tilapia was good. It was fresh and not too small. The pakbet was great. It was done just right and the veggies were not overdone nor were they underdone. It was a better than average meal and the price was great. All in all, we paid Ph200. Sobrang busog. I just wish I had ordered bulalo. Judging from the sabaw, it must have tasted marvelous. Aling Sosing's is located in Dian St. Turn right from Buendia and just go until you see it on your right.
