Foodventures in Manila, day 2
January 20, 2007 I finally went to the office and did my thing. I was told that I would not be able to finish it that day as they were prioritizing my boss' business. It was no big deal for me so I left. I picked up B and we went to Manila as I wanted to check on something there. It was lunchtime when we arrived so we went to Robinson's Place. We were planning to eat at Asian Bites, our new favorite eating place, when we were stopped by a banner in Mangan
advertising their garlic adobo pugo. B wanted to try that so we went inside. On one wall were several framed paintings of some political personalities and in the center, a painting of the owners' son (maybe). Windows to the kitchen were also framed. In the center of the dining area hangs an inverted giant kawa-like thingie. When we ordered pugo adobo, we were told that they don't have it in stock. So we ordered monggo soup, crispy pata and lumpia bangus instead. For shakes, B had grape and I had watermelon.
First to arrive were the shakes. B's was sweet but outstanding. Mine was great, very watermelony. Next to arrive were the soup. It was great. It was not watery and there were hints of tinapa. I've never tasted monggo that good. The lumpia came next. It was no great shakes, but it was ok. Now when we ordered, we asked how big the crispy pata was. We were told that it was good for two people. When it was served to us, we were surprised as it was a big piece of pata. It would have been more accurate to say that it could easily feed four people. Maybe six. The skin was crispy enough. The meat tender. It was not fatty at all. My only complaint was that it was too expensive. We paid Ph350 for the pata alone. Admittedly, the meal was great.
