Ate’s Patatim
January 16, 2007Every family has tradition for every occasion. Mine has to have patatim for Christmas. It started with my late Dad who starts cooking it one day before Christmas. Made from a secret recipe which he developed, he passed it on to my sister before he died (siempre naman no). He didn’t pass it on to me ’cause I wasn’t really into cooking the time he was still alive.
A Reluctant Goodbye
So, after spending several thousand pesoses, I finally completed my Sandman collection.
It may seem to be a foolhardy achievement for some, and a waste of money for others but I don't really regret spending for comic books graphic novels.
Happy Mistake
January 3, 2007Before Tito Doc left for Manila, the sis gave him a box full of goodies like laing, chili crabs, adobong ananakla for him and a package of pili nuts for cousin B to bring back to the US of A. Guess who got the goodies.. Anyhoo, the US tita was overjoyed to get a big pleasant surprise in the balikbayan box. She even requested for a recipe of my herbed baked potatoes. says cousin B loved it so much (yay!) and I thought he liked it only because there was no other gulay on the table
In Memoriam
December 12, 2006Today, Gil Gojol, a brother in the profession, died as he was on his way home from a hearing. He was passing by a lonely road, near a military detachment in Gubat, Sorsogon when his van was waved over by a man on a motorcycle. Gil’s driver stopped, rolled down the window and he was shot in the head by the gunman. Gil, who was on the passenger’s side, tried to run but he was shot down too. When Gil fell, the gunman went over to him and shot him again. Gil is known as a human rights advocate in Sorsogon. There are several speculations on why he would be shot down. But the popular theory is that he was killed because several of his clients are left leaning. It was strange that the gunman would have such overconfidence that he would do the deed just a few meters from a military detachment.
He was a self-made man. By hard work and perseverance, he rose from being a fisherman to a lawyer. But he never forgot his roots. He was down-to-earth, friendly, trusting, and kind. When we were new in the profession, he was one of the few who did not show us any condescension. When we were groping about on how to do things properly, he was there to show us the way. He was generous with his knowledge. When a situation becomes tense when a drunklawyer is becoming abusive, Gil would always ease off the tension with a joke and a giggle. He was a highlight of any gathering. The profession lost a good man in him.
To Gil, many thanks. I think there is a place for you waiting in heaven.
So Long and Thanks

Summers, i used to go to Bacon beach (a few minutes’ ride from our house) and stay there for a few days. It’s great swimming very early in the morning and wait for the sunrise. The water is cool and clean
Insensitive
The only good thing that came out from the ULTRA tragedy is that nabawasan ang mga mahihirap sa Pilipinas.
ULTRA investigations
February 9, 2006An investigation on the ULTRA tragedy has been concluded by the DILG and the results submitted. Basically, the DILG heaped the blame on ABS-CBN. What is interesting is that the head of the investigation, Marius Corpus, added some personal insights to the report, making it seem part of the offical report. The controversial phrase was that ” [the people].. were treated like animals…”
Deeming the DILG investigation faulty, another investigation is being conducted by the NBI. Mukhang kinukuyog ngayon ng government body ang ABS-CBN.
